Ashok Leyland to open base in Dubai

The Hinduja Group owned automotive group Ashok Leyland has plans to invest big and expand its operations in Dubai in the coming years. The company said in a statement that they are planning to invest Rs.5.5 billion to expand their manufacturing capacities in their domestic operations. They have further plans to set up a manufacturing base in Dubai that will serve as its export hub.

Ashok Leyland Managing Director R. Seshasayee said in a statement: “Ashok Leyland will pump in Rs.5.5 billion over the next two years in increasing our output from the present 77,000 units to 100,000 units. We will also be setting up a manufacturing base in Dubai that will take care of our exports.”

He added: “The Middle East, North, and West Africa are very important emerging markets for us and we intend to make our presence felt there through the Dubai operation”. He was talking to reporters at the ongoing Auto Expo in New Delhi. The company would be investing the money from their internal reserves.

The company also added that their Dubai based unit would be used to manufacture bus chassis and body building with an initial output target of 2,000 units.
