China has more than 111 million net users

One of the fastest growing markets for internet companies China has more than 111 million web users as per the latest figures released by the newspaper Economic Daily. China also happens to be the second largest internet market in the world after United States and is growing rapidly. This is despite the fact that the country is more known for the restrictions on free speech and freedom of expression on the internet.

As per the newspaper, around 8.5 percent of the country’s 1.3 billion people have access to some form of internet connectivity. They cited a survey conducted by the China Internet Network Information Center. However, this figure is a disappointment if we consider the prediction of the State media who predicted a figure of 120 million net users by the end of last year.

However, the net users in china grew faster in 2005 compared to 2004. The number grew by around 16% in 2004 compared to 18% in 2005. In other figures released by the survey results, more than half of the web using population access it through broadband connectivity. This shows the effect of government’s effort to improve the internet connectivity throughout the country.
