Sony Ericsson reports improved earnings
Sony Ericsson has released their revenue figures for the fourth quarter and they have good news for their investors. The mobile phone company has tripled their earnings in this period and the company claims that much of this is due to their recently unveiled Walkman branded mobile phone devices.
Sony Ericsson reported net profit figures of 144 million euros in the last quarter of 2005. This is an impressive jump from figures of 55 million euros in the same period in 2004. Sony Ericsson also reported improvement in sales figure, which touched 2.31 billion euros. This is again an improvement from 2.01 billion euros a year earlier.
The company also reported that they shipped 16.1 million handsets in the fourth quarter, which is an improvement of around 28% from the same period last year. Sony Ericsson President Miles Flint said in a statement on this improved performance by the company: “This was another solid quarter for Sony Ericsson, and has enabled us to finish the year with great momentum.â€
The company is competing with global giants like Motorola and Nokia and is also trying to catch up with Apple Computers in the digital music player segment. Interestingly, Apple is rumored to have been working on an iPhone and if that happens this year, it would make the mobile market even more interesting.
