Motorola acquires Kreatel Communications AB
US based tech giants Motorola have announced their decision to acquire Kreatel Communications AB. Kreatel is a tech company based in Sweden and specializes in developing set-top boxes for Internet television (IPTV). The market for broadcasting television content on the internet is growing fast but is unlikely to challenge the cable television operators for another couple of years.
However, Motorola’s latest acquisition would help them prepare themselves for the market which is expected to grow bigger and bigger in the coming years. It would also help Motorola market itself as a potential partner for telecom companies planning to enter the IPTV market. They are competing with Cisco owned Scientific Atlanta for the set-top box market in the United States.
Kreatel has established itself as a major player in the markets like Spain, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Motorola believes that there is huge potential in the IPTV market and this acquisition would help them grow their product range in this market. Dan Moloney, president of Motorola’s Connected Home Solutions added his views on this acquisition: “This is about Motorola being able to compete in the European market.â€
