Netflix names General William J. Henderson as new COO

Online DVD rental service Netflix has announced the appointment of General William J. Henderson as their new Chief Operations Office. Henderson would be taking over his new role in this company later this month. He is a former U.S. Postmaster and served as postmaster general and chief executive officer of the postal service from 1998 until 2001.

Henderson would be taking over the reigns from Tom Dillon, who started as Netflix COO in 1999. Dillon would be retiring from the company in April this year. Henderson would now be managing the running of the company, which includes 37 U.S. distribution centers that handle more than 1 million DVDs each day.

The company boasts of one-day delivery to more than 90 percent of its subscriber base, which is as large as 4 million customers. Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings said in a statement on the appointment of Henderson: “Bill Henderson is about the only person on the planet who looks at our volume of mail as a trickle.” The company has aims to expand their customer base to around 12 million users by 2012.
