GM launches Aveo and Chevrolet Optra SRV in India

World’s largest automotive company General Motors have finally gone aggressive in the Indian market and launched three vehicles together. The launch was announced yesterday and includes two variants of a totally new car Aveo and a new version of their existing Chevrolet Optra car. All these three new models comes branded Chevrolet as the company is aiming to cash in on its popularity in India.

These three models would be arriving in the showrooms for sale between February and June this year and the company would be aiming to expand their market share in the country by entering the premium compact car segment. However, they have not disclosed the expected prices of these models soon to be made available for sale.

The three models are: Aveo U-VA, Aveo, and the Chevrolet Optra SRV. Aveo U-VA is a hatchback based on the platform GM gained after acquiring Daewoo Motors of South Korea a couple of years back. It is expected to come powered with a 1.4-liter engine. It would be taking on the popular Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Hyundai Getz model.

The other variant is a sedan named Aveo. It is due to be launched in Europe this month itself and would be available in India sometime later this year. The third model is the sportsback version of Chevrolet Optra called Chevrolet Optra SRV.

From the pictures i happened to see of the Aveo sedan’,it looks great with pronounced wheel arches and muscular styling. It sure has the dimensions to take on the Fiesta from ford and the shortly to be launched Hyundai Accent/verna.Gm should power the Aveo with a refined diesal engine also. The tail lamps i happened to see looks drab with with silver borders, plain lamps should look neat. Interiors look neat . ABS & air bags should be available as an option at least.Pricing holds the key as the competetion is hot

Looks Like the hatch back version may take the market . But the sedan version will have a tough competiton with
Ford fiesta since its got a diesel variant in the 1.6litre
engine . Hondas IDSI and the optras VGIS are the intersting things to be looked forward . Aveo being in the same segment with the Honda 1.5 the competition will be tough.

It seems that GM has changed its mind on the launch of Aveo UVA after the budget. Many people who were waiting for the model might go ahead and purchase Swift. If the company is serious about the hatchback it should have some target date for launch of car.
