Mitsubishi expands availability of Lancer Cedia, to launch Montero next

Mitsubishi is having a tough time in India. The company recently launched the updated model of their flagship model Lancer but is failing to excite the Indian customer who now has a wide variety of models available in the same range. Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, and Hyundai Sonata are all present in this segment and Lancer Cedia is failing to attract many buyers. Honda is also due to launch their Civic model soon.

However, the company is not losing any hope. They have just launched this model in the south Indian city of Chennai and are now expecting to increase the indigenous content in Lancer Cedia to make it more cost effective to the end consumer. Ravi Santhanam, managing director of Hindustan Motors said in a statement: “We will continue to import the components for the Cedia.” However, they plan to increase the localized component level in this model to 35%.

Mitsubishi is manufacturing this car at the Hindustan Motor’s state-of-the-art plant in Tiruvallur, near Chennai. They have further plans to launch ‘Montero’ model in completely built unit (CBU) condition in five to six months from now in the country. Other than Lancer Cedia, the company also has other models on sale like Lancer and Pajero.
