Has LG.Philips overtaken Samsung in LCD market?

A latest report coming in from the market is that LG.Philips might have just overtaken the market leaders Samsung in the LCD display market. This report came from the research group ISuppli Corp. which has claimed that Samsung was overtaken last year in terms of sales by LG.Philips.

As per their statistics, Seoul-based LG.Philips accounted for 21.4 percent of 2005 global shipments. This is compared to just around 20.9 percent for Samsung, which is generally seen as the market leaders in the manufacturing of liquid-crystal displays used in computers and televisions last year.

These two tech giants were followed by Taiwan’s AU Optronics Corp, which now has a market share of around 14.5 percent. Other players in this segment are Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. and Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd. LCD market is expected to grow massively in the coming years as the demand is expected to increase with wider adoption of these screens around the world.
