Seagate sees massive potential from television market
Seagate Technology has said that they see the television market as the major driver for sales in the coming years. The company sees huge potential from the sales of digital set-top boxes that record television shows. Seagate chief executive Bill Watkins said in a statement to Reuters: “We are selling a phenomenal number of hard drives into this digital video recorder space.â€
The company has just announced their revenue figures for the last quarter, which comfortably managed to best the expectations from the market. The company is now seriously boosting their product availability for disk drives for digital cameras, portable music players, and televisions. This is a part of their plans to move beyond making products for the desktop and notebook computers.
Watkins added: “We have to morph ourselves into that consumer space.†Consumer electronic products accounted for nearly 13 percent of revenue in its last fiscal year. The company is now planning to expand their product availability in this segment with new launches targeting the consumer devices.
The rising popularity in the sales of high-definition televisions would also increase the demand for high capacity drives, which would be bringing in more business for the storage company.
