Toyota Bidadi plant is back on track
Toyota Kirloskar has confirmed that the Bidadi plant is back on track with production resuming after the 14-day lockout. The workers went on an indefinite strike on January 8 protesting the management’s decision to dismiss three employees on disciplinary grounds.
However, the worker’s union has maintained that the state government should issue the necessary orders as suggested by the Labor Commissioner to the Japanese based company over the treatment with the workers who were discharged from their duties. Toyota has said in a statement that over 200 workers out of the nearly 3,000 employees have returned to work after signing on a good conduct declaration.
The company’s General Manager, Corporate Planning, A. R. Shankar said in a statement on these latest developments: “We have also got calls from many team members who reside in north and south Karnataka informing us that they are on their way to Bangalore to resume duty. They were apprehensive of the threat of violence from the union. However, we expect most of the team members to attend work in a few days.â€
