Vodafone adds 7.1 million new customers in last quarter

Vodafone is the world’s largest mobile phone group when it comes to revenue figures. And the company is rapidly increasing their network worldwide. As per the latest incoming reports, the company added as many as 7.1 million new customers in the last quarter of 2005. Vodafone now has a global user base of an impressive 179.3 million customers.

Most of these new customers for the company came from the UK, German, and Italian markets. Vodafone gained 561,000 new users in the UK in addition to 906,000 and 324,000 users in Germany and Italy respectively. Vodafone chief Arun Sarin said in a statement on these impressive figures: “Sales of 3G devices accelerated in the Christmas quarter and we continue to see encouraging take-up of data services”.

He further added: “We expect to deliver full-year results in line with our existing guidance and our preliminary outlook for next year remains unchanged”. The company is also increasingly coming under pressure from the investors to sell off a stake in the US firm Verizon Wireless. However, the company clarified that they are not interested in doing that for now.

Vodafone claimed that Verizon Wireless is doing exceptionally well in the US market and there is no need to de-invest their stake in the company. They are now looking towards the competitive Japanese market to expand their market share in the worldwide markets. Vodafone also recently boosted their stake in India’s largest mobile service provider Bharti.
