Sun Microsystems posts losses in last quarter of 2005
Computer Server manufacturers Sun Microsystems has posted losses in the last quarter of the 2005. The results came despite the fact that company increased their sales. Sun also failed to meet the market expectations. The company however gained with the acquisition of Storage Technology Corp.
The company reported that it made losses of $223 million, or 7 cents per share in the quarter, which ended in December 2005. This is a disappointment compared to profits of $4 million in the same period the previous year. However, the revenues were up for the company at $3.34 billion. This is an improvement over $2.84 billion in the same period in 2004.
The company has struggled in the past couple of years especially after the dot com burst. They suffered even more as the servers running Linux and Windows Operating System gained popularity in the market. Dell, IBM, and Hewlett-Packard have taken over the server market and are distancing themselves pretty fast.
Sun Microsystems has been however active in the last couple of months launching new products targeting the growing market of servers.
