Yahoo! claims search is still priority
Media was practically shocked on hearing statements from Yahoo! senior officials claiming that they have given up hope on overtaking Google in the search engine market and has now renewed vows on keep working on their aim to dominate the market again. The company has now denied making any statement claiming that they were happy to maintain their existing market share in online search segment.
The problems started when media quoted Yahoo! Chief Financial Office Susan Decker saying, “It’s not our goal to be No. 1 in Internet search. We would be very happy to maintain our market shareâ€. However, on the company’s Blog, they have denied that they have given up on the aim of overtaking Google in the search engine market.
Yahoo! is also saying that their recent product developments like My Web, Yahoo Answers and Open Shortcuts are just some of the examples on technologies they are working on to continue evolving in the market and improve their searching capabilities. The Blog post said: “As all of us at Yahoo agree, we’re in it for the long haul, and we’re in it to win.â€
However, Yahoo! has a lot of catching up to do considering the latest market statistics claim that Google has a search engine market share of nearly 47.7 percent. Yahoo! has around 21.8 percent market share and is followed by another giants in the market, MSN with 11.3 percent.
