Warner Bros. starts selling movies online

US based movie studio Warner Bros has announced that they are now offering movies and television shows online in collaboration with Bertelsmann’s subsidiary arvato mobile. They are launching this service in the European countries using the popular p2p technology over the internet.

This would be one of the best examples of how the movie industry is now changing its stand on the p2p technology by adopting it instead of suing the developers of applications, which uses p2p to enable file sharing.

Warner’s In2Movies service will debut in March and would feature more than 80 movies initially. These include popular titles like Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Must Love Dogs. In addition, they would also be providing popular television series like The O.C. and Friends.

Warner would be launching this service in Germany, Austria, and the German-speaking parts of Switzerland. Kevin Tsujihara, president of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group said in a statement on this new initiative from the company: “One of the most effective weapons for defeating online piracy is providing legal, easy-to-use alternatives”.

He further added: “Our initial efforts will focus on the German market, but in the months ahead, we will leverage this technology to better serve markets around the world”.
