Research in Motion wins patent case in Britain

Research in Motion has won two crucial lawsuits in Britain related to patents against InPro Licensing SARL. The courts in the UK have ruled that the InPro’s U.K. patent is invalid. They had earlier claimed that the maker of popular blackberry devices had infringed on some of their patents.

The company added that they have won a similar lawsuit in Germany. They had already won the case filed in the United States earlier. However, the company still faces the crucial lawsuit in the US market filed by NTP.

NTP has already won a court case charging RIM with patent infringement. RIM however got some relief when the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) subsequently ruled that the relevant NTP patents are invalid. However, it is yet to be seen how that affects the lawsuit being fought in the courts.

They are not the only PDA makers who are being sued around the world. Another company Visto has filed lawsuits against Microsoft and Good Technology for similar patent related infringements.
