Microsoft to continue developing iPod challengers with partners

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has said that the software giants would continue developing new technologies and products along with their partners to challenge the domination of Apple iPod players in the digital music player market.

Apple has a massive lead when it comes to market share for digital music players and is now also selling video playing capable players. Most other players fail to match the popularity and some of them including Dell have somewhat given up hope of matching the marketing tactics of the company.

Gates said in a statement: “I don’t think what’s out on the market today is the final answer. Between us and our partners, you can expect some pretty hot products coming out over the next few years.” However, a few years to develop a challenger to the Apple products is not going to help Microsoft considering Apple itself is evolving the Apple iPod player comprehensively.

Recent media reports claimed that the company itself is planning to develop their own hardware solutions to compete with Apple iPod in the market. This player is expected to be an all-in-one solution to portable entertainment and might also include the ability to play videogames.
