MegaSIM: Orange to offer storage capable SIMs

If you are stuck with a mobile phone with no storage slots for memory chips, there is still hope. Mobile phone group Orange has planned to launch a special SIM card later this year, which would come with storage capacities, which are 8,000 times the capacities of regular SIM cards!

This means, you can actually store around 512-megabyte worth of data right on your SIM card eliminating the need for a third party card! This might help the owners of older generation mobile phones to store more on their mobile handsets and if the phones have the capability of playing mp3 files, it can turn it into a true digital music player!

The company has developed this card in collaboration with M-systems, Oberthur Card Systems and LG Electronics. The plan is to launch this card in the European market first. Orange said in a statement about MegaSIM: “The SIM will… remove the need for clumsy additional card slots that are required today to provide storage in multimedia handsets.”
