eDonkey suffers the wrath of Movie Studios
Motion Picture Association has revealed that they have managed to get a major component of the eDonkey file-sharing network shut down with help from Swiss and Belgian police. They also claimed that this file application is being used online to pirate copyrighted movies and music.
As per incoming reports, Razorback 2 was one of the biggest servers on the eDonkey peer-to-peer (P2P) network and was used for file sharing on the network between the users connected through this application.
MPA said in a statement: “Swiss authorities arrested the site’s operator at his residence in Switzerland this morning and searched his home. At the same time, on the authority of a local magistrate, Belgian police seized the site’s servers located at an Internet hosting center in Zaventem near Brussels.”
This server alone was being used by almost a third of all users connected through eDonkey application serving close to a million users. This is not the first success the movie industry has achieved. They have managed to get Napster’s free p2p service close down and are pretty close to getting Kazaa off the circuit as well.
