Maruti Udyog set to launch diesel Swift and LPG WagonR
Market leaders in the Indian automobile market Maruti Udyog have said that the company has plans to soon launch with diesel and LPG powered cars in the Indian market. This statement was released in the media by the MUL managing director Jagdish Khattar.
Maruti is expected to launch the LPG variant of Wagon-R vehicle first. It is expected to arrive in the retail market in the next two months. This variant of the popular WagonR would be capable of using both Petrol and LPG as the fuel source for running.
More importantly, this LPG variant would be around Rs 25,000 more expensive than the regular model and would still be cheaper than the diesel variant. The company is also due to launch diesel variants of several of their models later this year.
Maruti Suzuki Swift diesel is expected to become one of the primary products from the company as they expect to take on the higher end variants of Tata Indica in this segment. The company has invested around Rs. 3,000-crores on their diesel plant and is also planning to invest another Rs. 2,700 crores on upgradation of their plants in Gurgaon.
Maruti has further plans to spend Rs. 6,000 crores in three years on research and development and expansion programmes.
