Blu-Ray to arrive in US on May 23
Sony might not have revealed the launch date of their upcoming next generation gaming console, Playstation 3 but they now have declared the launch date of the Blu-Ray format drives in the United States.
Sony Pictures has said that they are aiming at delivering the new Blu-ray DVD format to U.S. stores on May 23. This with coincide with the launch of compatible disc players in the market. Sony picture would be making available eight Blu-ray titles along with another movie studios MGM Home Entertainment.
Another eight movie titles are being planned to follow in the coming months. Some of the first movie titles to be introduced in the Blu-Ray format would be “50 First Datesâ€, “The Fifth Element,” “Hitch” and “House of Flying Daggersâ€.
The competition for this format is the HD DVD promoted and developed by Toshiba. Content on this storage format is expected to be available in the markets by next month and it would be interesting to see if they are able to take the advantage of being the first movers in the market.
Samsung is expected to be the first hardware manufacturer to launch DVD players capable of supporting the Blu-Ray format in the market to coincide with the launch of content from Sony and MGM.
