NASA aiming for three space shuttle launches this year
The American space agency NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has plans to try for three shuttle flights this year. The first one is currently scheduled for May or July if everything goes according the plans.
However, there are big potential problems. The safety of the shuttle and the crew is the top priority for NASA and they are working hard on eradicating the foam problem, which caused more problems during the last Discovery mission. There are more problems related to the fuel tank on which NASA is working hard.
Space shuttle program manager Wayne Hale said in a statement on the progress: “I remain optimistic that if we fly by this summer, we will be able to get three flights off. But time will tell. This is not like the railroad.”
If everything goes fine, NASA should be able to fly the space shuttle to space this coming May, July and November. However, they have made it clear that the may mission might be cancelled if any other technical snag appears in the coming days.
