Online search touch record heights in January

As per incoming reports, the month of January saw record searches conduction on the internet in the United States. This has just gone on to confirm how searching has become a part of spending time on the internet for an average web user.

However, the interesting part of this statistic was that the market share of the top three search engines, Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft MSN, was relatively unchanged. These statistics were released by research group Nielsen/NetRatings.

The report claimed that online users in US conducted as many as 5.7 billion searches in the first month of the year. This is an improvement of around 39 percent compared to the figures in the same month the previous year.

Nielsen/NetRatings analyst Ken Cassar said in a statement on their findings: “Web users are conducting more searches not because they can’t find what they’re looking for, but because search as a utility has become deeply ingrained into people’s everyday lives”.

Google is still the market leaders and had a 48.2 percent market share in the month of January. Yahoo! had a market share of 22.2 percent. MSN Search Engine saw a minor drop and had a market share of 11 percent searches.
