Vodafone planning huge dividend for investors
UK based mobile service provider Vodafone is said to have plans to pay shareholders a 5 billion pound special dividend if they in fact manages to sell off their Japanese unit. This information was released in the media by a newspaper in the market.
Vodafone has already confirmed news reports that it was in talks with Japanese Internet communications firm Softbank Corp. for a possible sale of their controlling stake in the struggling Vodafone KK business.
Sunday Telegraph claimed in a news report that sources close to the company expected the world’s biggest mobile operator by sales to opt for a special dividend rather than a share buyback. However, the deal with Softbank is still in early stages and might not end up in a confirmed deal.
A Vodafone representative said on this issue: “The deal is not done so it’s premature to talk with any certainty about this. As and when and if the deal is actually done we will then at that point clarify what we will do with the proceeds.â€
