Intel to launch WiMAX cards this year
World’s largest manufacturer of microprocessors for the personal computing market Intel has announced that they would be launching the much-awaited WiMAX cards this year itself. These cards would be able to let computers access the Internet using WiMAX technology.
What is WiMAX?
WiMAX is an acronym that stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, a certification mark for products that pass conformity and interoperability tests for the IEEE 802.16 standards. WiMAX is a standards-based wireless technology that provides high-throughput broadband connections over long distances. WiMAX can be used for a number of applications, including “last mile” broadband connections, hotspots and cellular backhaul, and high-speed enterprise connectivity for business.
Market experts call Wimax the next version of the current generation Wi-Fi technology. Wimax brings a wider range for the wireless broadband connectivity and can very well revolutionize the wireless internet connectivity worldwide.
Sean Maloney, vice president of Intel’s mobility group said in a statement on this product launch plan: “The cost is coming down significantly while the volume is coming up significantly.â€
