Merom, Conroe, Woodcrest: Intel planning to launch three new dual-core processors

Intel’s little competitor AMD has never looked this threatening. Just a day before the Intel’s developer forum started in the city of Santa Clara, AMD launched three new dual core Opteron processors with better features.

Intel has now responded with their own plans to soon launch three new dual-core processors in coming months. These new processors would strike a new balance between power and performance as per company reports.

The new processors would include Merom for mobile platforms, Conroe for desktops and Woodcrest for servers. This three-processor range would share a new technical base called Intel Core Microarchitecture. Intel claims that this design combines the energy efficiency of the company’s Pentium M and Core Duo processors with the high performance of its Pentium 4 and Xeon products.

Let us hope they get it right this time!
