LG Electronics to support both HD DVD and Blu-Ray formats
South Korea based hardware manufacturing giants LG Electronics have said that they are going to product both HD DVD and Blu-Ray players. Till now, the company had only officially lent its support for the Blu-ray camp.
This news means that LG now supports both HD DVD and Blu-Ray formats. HD DVD is being developed by Toshiba while the Blu-Ray format has been primarily developed by Sony. Both the companies have failed to come to a resolution and consumers would see products supporting these new formats coming out in the retail market from this month.
LG showcased at the ongoing CeBIT trade show their Blu-ray optical drives for use in combination with a personal computer. These would be available in the retail market later this year thought no prices have been announced.
LG Electronics’ European president James Kim said in a statement: “It will be only in a few products (PCs). The product has not yet hit the sweet spot.†Toshiba has already showcased a Laptop loaded with a HD DVD drive.
