Honda Shine launched. To spend big on expansion.

Japanese automotive giants Honda have finally launched their second motorcycle in the Indian market. After Honda Unicorn, the company has now launched a 125cc motorcycle Honda Shine.

Honda has also said that they are planning to invest Rs 400 crore over the next three years to more than double its production capacity. These investments would help the company double their capacities to two million units by 2010 to corner.

Honda has set themselves the target to corner at least 20% of the Indian two-wheeler market in the coming years. They are aiming to sell 1,70,000 units of the new bike in the 12 months beginning April 1.

Honda Shine would be competing with other popular models in this segment like the Hero Honda Super Splendor, Hero Honda Glamour, Bajaj Discover, and TVS Victor. Honda has priced Honda Shine at Rs 45,120 (on-road Delhi) and Rs 47,065 (disk brakes version).

We are currently making a study, and it is too premature to disclose anything.”

Its really looking good in shape. Self start should be mandatory. Need more colours. Disk break and Alloy wheels Should be the optional.

  2. kiran | March 13th, 2006 at 4:17 pm

Wonderfull for family. good for smooth riders. Good mileage, good design.

  3. sandeep | March 21st, 2006 at 8:28 pm

self start and alloy wheels should be optional

  4. Rahul Nair | March 22nd, 2006 at 4:25 pm

Run of the mill design. Lacks an identity. Nothing that makes it stand out. HONDA could have done better.

  5. narasingarao K | March 26th, 2006 at 12:43 pm

We can definitly expect a bike which has adequate power and gives good mileage. Only downside is with the looks. With pulsar ruling the roost as far as looks go, honda should have put in more thought while desiging the bike. It looks like a bike made 10 years ago..

Honda is at their worst with resepct to designing 2-wheelers aesthetically (looks). Also the recent add-on-stickers to Unicorn has done it more harm then goods. In short they have gone out of their minds and imagination and should take a leaf out our local Indian designer, while even a sadak chaap mechanic can design a better looking bike!!

Leaving the above other all areas are excellent and way beyond any nearest competition especially the engine refinement and the reliability. Well if you think I dont have one then its because of these refinement and reliability aspects that I continue to own a Honda Unicorn. Thank god I had an option of at least having a simple and plain-Jane looking unicorn (older version) rather then own the existing Red Indian with feathers all around and gender undecided??

1)well its honda and the engine the bike has can be trusted with your eyes closed.
2)the shift to twin suspension is a good calculated choice because monoshocks just dont suit indian roads and also implementing more costly monoshocks will increase the cost of the bike, giving its competitors an edge over it. honda seems to have got that right.
3)fuel efficiency wise it says 65kmpl but i predict i will give around 60kmpl.(based on the fact that honda said the fuel efficiency of unicorn is 60kmpl but in a city like hyderabad it gave around 52kmpl. this is an average taken from various people i know.)

    conclusion:
I)efficiency -it looses out to hero honda glamour and super splendour.
II)aesthetics- it looses out to bajaj discover to a great extent.
III)performance-cannot say yet (lets just say we have to leave this part to the magazine professional. who will compare this bike with others in its category.

NOTE PLZ: the above conclusions are only my thoughts; what i think about this bike based on my mere knowledge.

    ^_^ thank u ^_^

Nice Bike. Honda will chase the 125CC current bikes in market with their shine.

  9. Kunal Satpathy | April 18th, 2006 at 3:55 pm

Its areally nice bike. One can go miles on it before getting bored on it. But I think HONDA should take care of the power-hungry, rubber-burning crowd of INDIA as well.

Honda is being an outstanding automobile manufacturer. Unicorn is delivering a better performance when compared with the other models in that segment, the only drawback is that the external looks and the riding style&comfort have to be taken more care. There should be an option for the customers to go for alloy wheels.

  11. Abdul Rahman | April 19th, 2006 at 6:45 pm

    1. I think, Honda has a ability to go on and on, but It dont really done on shine.
    2. When Compare to the bikes in its segment, are more beautiful and goodlooking with double cradle, alloy wheels, disk break, electric start. with some more cost.
    3. Honda has to take care of Design and Comfort of the Bike.
    4. I think, the Bike will have a good chance to give a challenge to Passion Plus, but Not the Glamour, Discover.
    5. If its Milega crosses 60 kmpl on road in Hyderabad city. then we can go for it.

As already mentioned the bike’s graphics are a big minus to it! though the bike performance is ok the looks r not gr8.The TVS Star city has mag wheels and looks better than this!

  15. Manoj kumar | April 22nd, 2006 at 8:23 pm

Honda in my opininon should have used a double cradle chasis instead of the conventional diamond shaped and should have incorporated a five speed gear box to fight the compatition for the SHINE.The instrumentation should have been more like the compatition with a tacho and a trip meter. The engine should be more smoother and vibration free as a detailed report has not been collected from here in Cochin

i went to honda showroom, it looks similar to unicorn, not bad, they are telling it give 60kml in city condition, i will be happy if any one gives comments on mileage of honda shine

  20. Ajay Karki | April 26th, 2006 at 5:23 pm

    Hi,

Honda Shine is good bike and it is comfortable for average hight persons (5′4″. Look is also good. Its Tank is also look as similar to Unicorn Tank.

  21. Harpreet Shergill | May 1st, 2006 at 7:11 pm

Today I visted the Honda Showroom in Chandigarh. My purpose was to see shine in real metal. The bike is indeed cool and attactive. I even had a test drive and I found that the bike does have lot of punch and the engine is too smooth. It is really comfort to ride a shine. My only worry is about the fuel efficiency as the salesperson claimed it to be 65 kmpl in city riding condtions whereas in various reviews I found it to be around 45-55 kmpl.

Well I have decided to buy this bike for Honda’s reputation at the moment.

  22. ANUJ AGRAWAL | May 1st, 2006 at 10:01 pm

The new HONDA SHINE is a good looking bike from side but not very great looking from front. The bike lacks electric start and alloy wheels. These should have been optional. The average (60km/l) is good but not better than HERO HONDA’s GLAMOUR OR SUPER SPLENDOR. But the bike has good graphics. It should be available in more colours.
Overall, my opinion for this bike is good but not better than SUPER SPLENDOR OR GLAMOUR.This is my personal opinion for HONDA SHINE.

  23. Gururaj Bhat | May 3rd, 2006 at 5:27 pm

I’m looking for a bike with avg 50-55. i dont want to buy any hero honda or bajaj(except pulsar). finally i hav 3 options - shine, unicorn, pulsar. i think, in long term pulsar is not that much strong. and unicorn looks a little delicate. so please post your opinion about this.

hi i m also very ethusiast to buy honda shine ,but i m eagerly looking forward to have shine with ALLOY WHEELS and more SPORTY LOOK.

  31. V.Saikumari | September 10th, 2007 at 7:26 pm

Hondashine is a good vehicle to ride in cities ie., in traffic areas. I like Hondashine because of smooth ride even in heavy traffic. But service is not good atll to the customers in service centres. Like other companies Honda company did not enquiring the customers about sales after service. This is the main problem with Honda company. If the company provides feedback from the customers through paper work or throug phone service, the company knows about customers pulse. I think I can get a reaction as early as possible about this problem from the Honda company.Iam the Honda family, that’s why Iam giving suggestions.
