TiVo announces the availability of KidZone feature

TiVo has announced that they are soon going to offer a new feature on their digital television recorder systems called KidZone. Companies like TiVo make it possible for the customers in the US record television show to view them as per their convenience.

Now, the Congress and the Federal Communications Commission has for years now required the broadcasters to feature at least three hours per week of educational and informational programming for children. These shows are tagged “E/I” and now owners of TiVo boxes with this new feature from the company will be able to access a menu of such nationally broadcast shows, no matter what channel — or time — they run.

This would make it easier for the parents to record television content suitable for their kids for later viewing. The KidZone feature would also include a list of shows recommended by three parent advocacy groups. TiVo would be providing this value added facility without any extra charges.

KidZone will work only for roughly a third of TiVo’s 4.4 million subscribers who own standalone TiVo DVRs. It would not be available on units built into DirecTV satellite receivers. It is one of the latest facilities TiVo is providing to distinguish itself from the other similar service providers in the country.
