Google to allow people to buy books for online reading
Search engine giant Google has plans to soon let people buy books from their Google Book Store. However, they would only let them read the book online through a web browser. This program would be similar to the Amazon Upgrade program, which offers similar functionality to Amazon users.
This service would only be available to users who pay and login to the Google service. They would not be however allowed to download the book for offline reading or storage. Until now, the company was only allowing the users to read parts of books on the net before they could visit the collaborating online stores to buy the books.
Google however provides complete material for reading from books, which are available in public domain free of any copyrights. The company is now giving their partners an option to let them sell the book’s content for sale online for reading through a browser.
The search engine company has faced several lawsuits related to their book-digitizing program where many organizations have accused them of breaking copyrights by digitizing books without the approval of their authors and publishers.
