In2TV: AOL planning to release a free video service
Time Warner’s online division American Online has plans to launch one of the biggest free video services on the Internet today. They would be showing vintage shows and short clips which would be supported by online advertisements.
This service would be called In2TV and in the beginning, this service would be powered by sponsorship from four advertisers Intel Corp., KIA Motors Corp., Kraft Foods Inc., and Hershey Co.
Kevin Conroy, executive vice president of AOL Media Networks said in a statement: “It’s from the strength of the online advertising market that we can bring free on demand (videos).†The service would include shows from corporate sibling Warner Bros., which owns the rights to shows like “Welcome Back Kotter,” “Kung Fu” and “Growing Pains.”
This service would help AOL take on similar services provided by their competitors like Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo! They are also talking with other content providers to showcase their shows on their service supported by advertisement.
In the later stages, AOL would also begin offering paid downloads through this video service in addition to further plans for a subscription based model. That would put AOL in direct competition with Apple iTunes.
