Amazon S3: Cheap web hosting from Amazon
Just months, after Amazon launched a service to enable web developers to use Alexa technology to develop their own customized search engines, Amazon has yet another service for the web-based businesses.
The online ecommerce giant has launched a new online storage service, dubbed Amazon S3. Adam Selipsky, VP of product management and developer relations at Amazon Web Services said in a statement on this initiative: “The motivation is to enable developers to worry about building innovative applications with their data, and not to worry about where to store it.â€
Amazon has already invested heavily in their fast, reliable, scalable computing infrastructure based on commodity hardware and with this service; they are making parts of it available for affordable prices.
Amazon is charging $0.15 per gigabyte of storage per month, and $0.20 per gigabyte of data transferred and they don’t have a minimum fee fixed for interested businesses. So, in a way people would be only paying for what they use instead of a fixed package like most other web hosting companies require them too.
Dave Barth, product manager for Amazon S3 added: “And we’re going to charge you the same amount for the same reliable service, regardless of how big of a customer you are. We think that will do a lot to empower smaller developers to innovate.”
