BMW Mini, Bikes to arrive in India in 2009

They say that the massively successful Suzuki Swift was inspired by the hugely popular and cult vehicle Mini which is now owned by the maker of luxury cars BMW. There is good news for Mini fans in India as the company has said that they are planning to introduce this model in the Indian market in 2009.

This news was revealed in the media by Kay Segler, vice-president, brand management, MINI on the sidelines of the BMW Annual Accounts Conference in Munich. In addition, the company is also planning to re-introduce their bikes in the Indian market in the coming years. BMW had introduced the fantastic F650 motorcycle in India in 1996 but was not very successful considering the very high price of this product.

However, the premium bike market in India has picked up pace in the recent times and BMW might be able to sell more bikes this time around as consumers seem to be interested in paying a price for quality products. BMW Mini itself could cost around a massive Rs. 18 lakh in the Indian market when it is introduced in the coming years.

BMW Mini competes with Mercedes A Class in some of the highly competitive markets in the world. The company is currently working on establishing its manufacturing base in Chennai where they are going to develop products like the 3-series and 5-series.
