Warner Bros. delay launch of HD DVD titles
Toshiba is in for some more trouble. The company is all set to launch their products powered by the newly developed HD DVD technology. However, if we are to believe the incoming reports, these players would not have any content to play with as Warner Bros. has delayed the release of their movies loaded on the HD DVD format discs.
The delay means that HD DVD players available in the market would have to be used to play traditional media for as long as 3 weeks. Warner Home Video has confirmed that they have pushed back the release dates of its initial slate of high-definition DVD titles to April 18.
The company has plans to release HD DVD versions of their blockbuster movies like “Million Dollar Babyâ€, “The Phantom of the Opera” and “The Last Samuraiâ€. Stephen Nickerson, the studio’s senior VP market management blamed these delays on technical issues: “Everything we do is new. We’re using new copy protection, new compression, new codecs, and we want to make sure the product that goes out is flawless.”
