Intel collaborates with Micron Tech for Flash Memory production unit

World’s largest maker of microprocessors for personal computers Intel has collaborated with Micron Technology and the two companies would be investing in a new plant that will make flash memory chips.

These flash memory chips are very high in demand as they are used in all sort of digital players like mobile phones and mp3 players. Samsung is even developing solutions to make them cheap enough for laptop computers.

The joint venture between these two companies is called IM Flash Technologies and they would be taking on the dominating players in the market like Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea and Toshiba Corp. of Japan.

They have however not yet decided upon the location of this upcoming plant though Asia seems to be a good probability. Brian Harrison, vice president of Intel’s Flash Memory Group said in a statement: “We’re conducting a worldwide search, so we haven’t ruled out any region at the moment.”
