SanDisk aims at eating Apple iPod market share
SanDisk is more popular in the market for their memory cards. However, the company also makes digital music players and is now aiming at expanding their range to provide a serious competition to the market leaders Apple Computers and their iPod range of digital music players.
The company is already the second largest manufacturer of MP3 players in the US. SanDisk believes that this is due to the greater value for money approach, which is not provided by Apple products. Eric Bone, SanDisk’s director of consumer products marketing claims that most of the building blocks in both the players are same.
SanDisk is now planning to launch a wider range of players at the end of April. They would be launching these in three different series dubbed “good, better and best”. The good range products feature Sansa m200 Series priced between $100 - $220 with capacities up to 2GB.
The better range c100 Series is priced between $180- $240 with capacities of 1GB and 2Gb. The best range e200 Series priced between $280 - $450 with capacities up to 6GB. These players would come with better features compared to the Apple iPod. They would feature voice recording, FM tuner and the ability to support a greater number of music subscription services.
