General Motors takes away Opel Brand from India

General Motors is taking some big decisions nowadays. The company has launched several vehicles under the Chevrolet brand in the Indian market and is now closing the doors on the prestigious Opel brand in the Indian market.

GM would now be focusing their attention on promoting the Chevrolet brand here in India. The company recently announced plans to launch three new cars and Chevrolet Aveo have already been launched here.

GM has also confirmed that they have stopped the production of their older model Open Corsa and would now be promoting Chevrolet Aveo as its replacement. Aveo would also be available in a hatchback version in the coming months.

The company is already selling Chevrolet Optra Sedan and Chevrolet Tavera models in the Indian market and has been quite successful with them. Chevrolet Aveo would be taking on competitors like Hyundai Accent, Ford Fiesta, and Honda City.

GM has also roped in leading Bollywood Stars Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan as brand ambassadors for the Aveo model. It looks like exciting times are ahead for this company, which is currently the largest maker of automobiles in the world.

    dear sirs,
After I learnt about GM scrapping manufacturing of the Opel Corsa Sail I felt let down that I had been cheated into buying a product that soon would be discontinued i.e. in the month of feb 2005, I beleive the decision to scrap the vehicle was hidden from the customer. How should the customer have been informed when he was in the buying process? Shame on such a reputed company.
