Yahoo! launches “Phone Out” service in United States
Search engine giants and the makers of popular Instant Messaging application Yahoo! Messenger, Yahoo! announced that they are launching a service in the US which would enable the consumers to make phone calls through their messenger.
This service is already available in many countries since last year and is now available in their domestic market. This service is called “Phone Out†and it enables people to make calls from their computers for 2 cents a minute or less to the top 30 national phone markets.
It would also enable users to allow calls from computers to regular phones at varying rates to a total of 180 countries. This technology is one of the latest to provide cheap telephony services to users worldwide and is taking on the traditional telecom companies in a big way.
Interestingly, Yahoo! has priced their rates cheaper than the market leaders Skype. Yahoo! is just one of the many tech giants in the nation to enter this segment of the market. Both AOL and Microsoft are working on providing similar services to their users.
