Panasonic Blu-Ray players to come this September
Panasonic has revealed that they would be starting to sell their Blu-ray high-definition disc players beginning this coming September. They are expected to be priced under $1500 and the company is seeing up to 5 million of these new DVD players sold industry-wide in their first year.
Reid Sullivan, vice president merchandising, Panasonic’s entertainment group said in a statement on their plans for the coming months: “We think adoption will be strong, based on broad support. For the first 12 months, we expect 4 million to 5 million units to be sold beginning in May and across all platforms, including standalones, computers and gaming systems.â€
Panasonic however have no plans to support both Blu-Ray and HD DVD formats in the near future. They are going with just one format for the time being. Sullivan added on their support for Blu-Ray platform: “Unfortunately, there is some confusion between the two but based on the wide support for Blu-ray in the industry, we expect the (growth) curve to be quite steep. We recognize that it’s best to have one format.â€
The company is also scheduled to launch their 103-inch flat screen TV that is expected to cost around a massive USD 10,000.
