Panasonic Blu-Ray players to come this September

Panasonic has revealed that they would be starting to sell their Blu-ray high-definition disc players beginning this coming September. They are expected to be priced under $1500 and the company is seeing up to 5 million of these new DVD players sold industry-wide in their first year.

Reid Sullivan, vice president merchandising, Panasonic’s entertainment group said in a statement on their plans for the coming months: “We think adoption will be strong, based on broad support. For the first 12 months, we expect 4 million to 5 million units to be sold beginning in May and across all platforms, including standalones, computers and gaming systems.”

Panasonic however have no plans to support both Blu-Ray and HD DVD formats in the near future. They are going with just one format for the time being. Sullivan added on their support for Blu-Ray platform: “Unfortunately, there is some confusion between the two but based on the wide support for Blu-ray in the industry, we expect the (growth) curve to be quite steep. We recognize that it’s best to have one format.”

The company is also scheduled to launch their 103-inch flat screen TV that is expected to cost around a massive USD 10,000.
