.mobi domain names coming this may

Mobile Top Level Domain (mTLD) has said that they would begin selling the hugely anticipated .mobi domain names this coming May. These domains are targeted towards the companies and individuals who want to develop website specially designed for the mobile platform.

This domain suffix would also come with its own new set of design standards that plans to make the internet more accessible on small screen devices like mobile phones and PDAs. The logic behind this is that more and more people would soon begin accessing the internet using portable devices, which makes it necessary for the online world to be usable on small screen devices.

dotMobi chief executive officer Neil Edwards said in a statement: “You can’t take dot-com content and put it on a mobile phone. It doesn’t work.” These websites are expected to feature web pages and images optimized for the mobile platform.

3 Mobile, Ericsson, Google, GSM World, Nokia, Microsoft, Samsung, T-Mobile, Telefonica, Telecom Italia Mobil, and Vodafone are some of the big names who have invested in making this project a massive success.
