Movielink and CinemaNow to expand movie offerings
Two online movie services, Movielink and CinemaNow have announced that they are planning to begin selling major films such as “Memoirs of a Geisha” on the same day DVDs are sold at stores.
This would be a major step forward for the Hollywood, which is since sometime tinkering with the digital download route to expand their revenue sources. Movielink has confirmed that they have signed deals with six major studios for download-to-own service. CinemaNow on the other hand has signed on similar pacts with two big players as well as independent LionsGate Entertainment Corp.
Movielink Chief Executive Officer Jim Ramo said about this breakthrough: “This is an endorsement that digital delivery of high value content has finally arrived.†CinemaNow CEO Curt Marvis added by saying that the move is one giant step for digital distribution.
Movielink would be beginning their service by selling copies of award winning gay romance “Brokeback Mountainâ€. In the coming weeks, they would have on offer movies like “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fireâ€, “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “King Kongâ€.
CinemaNow on the other hand would have other blockbusters like “Fun with Dick and Jane” and horror hit “Saw II” among others.
