Samsung SDI to expand production of plasma display panels
South Korea based Samsung SDI is already the world’s largest maker of plasma display panels and the company has further plans to invest around 750 million dollar to expand the production as the demand for such display panels is increasing massively.
The company said in a statement that they are planning to invest this amount into a new PDP production line at its plant in the southern city of Ulsan. This unit is expected to open in March next year and will produce three million 42-inch (107-centimeter) PDP screens a year.
This would expand the company’s total production to around 7.32 million units per year Samsung SDI already operates three PDP lines in Cheonan, south of Seoul. The company said in a statement on their upcoming plans: “As its fourth PDP line is to begin mass production from May in 2007, Samsung SDI will actively cope with rapidly growing demand for PDPs.â€
As per market analysts, the demand for such panels is expected to grow from 7.15 million units in 2005 to 11.03 million in 2006, 15.20 million in 2007, 18.97 million in 2008, and 22.78 million in 2010.
