Maruti sells 63,196 units in the month of March
The excise cuts introduced in the month of March benefited the country’s leading automobile manufacturer as Maruti Suzuki noticed an improvement in sales by an astounding 15.7 per cent.
Maruti Udyog sold as many as 63,196 units last month compared to around 54,613 units in the same period last year. This month also saw the comeback of their cheapest model Maruti 800 which sold in huge numbers.
Maruti seems to have benefited from the eight per cent excise duty cut though many market analysts believe that the cut did not end up helping the consumers as the dealers removed the discounts and other benefits, which were earlier in place to attract the new buyers.
However, Maruti still managed to sell as many as 5,61,822 units (including exports) as against 5,36,301 units in the previous fiscal. The month of March saw Maruti selling 17,908 units of Alto, 10,843 units of Wagon R and 6,651 units of Swift. One of these Swift is in fact owned by me! Maruti sold as many as 10,937 units of Maruti 800 model in March.
