America Online launches mobile web browser service
Time Warner’s online division America Online has expanded their services for the mobile internet user. The company has introduced a new mobile-browsing service, which is targeted at the users who surf the internet using portable devices like mobile phones and PDAs.
This service aims to provide better access to information while on the move. It compliments the existing services from the company like mobile search, mobile shopping, and mobile maps. This service automatically converts the web pages for proper display on smaller screens.
AOL is using technology provided by Israeli firm InfoGin for adapting Web pages for handsets. The company competes with other online services like Google and Yahoo! to lure mobile users to use their services. AOL claims that they are confident that the mobile internet usage will increase in the coming years and they want to capture a large part of this segment.
AOL’s representative Thomas said in a statement: “Users no longer have to rely on SMS for searches. All they have to do is enter a keyword or URL and they are directed to the site. It’s a much better browsing experience, with all of the content automatically formatted for the mobile screen as different pages as accessed.”
