Microsoft to increase investments in digital rights management technologies

The general consumer might be totally against the issues created by the digital rights management techniques used by the music and movie industry, but the software companies are continuing their efforts in this direction.

World’s largest software company Microsoft has said that it will increase investments in digital rights management to guard against piracy. They are also planning to support the wireless industry as it sees transmission of tunes, pictures, and video clips over the wireless network.

The research group IDC has said that More than 30 million U.S. wireless subscribers will consume video and television content on mobile devices by 2009. As a result, the DRM over wireless technologies has become a lucrative field to have a presence in.

Microsoft has not given out a figure amount, which they plan to invest in the coming months. Though, they have said that the investment would be pretty significant. They said that already as many as 100 content services licenses and deploys the Microsoft Windows Media DRM platform on hundreds of devices.

Their platform supports download and play, subscription, video on demand. In addition, the device manufacturers can directly acquire licenses on their handsets.
