McAfee acquires SiteAdvisor
Developers of security applications McAfee have said that they have acquired the Boston-based SiteAdvisor portal. This website protects the web users by informing them about the quality of the websites before they click on them on search engine result pages.
A plug-in developed by this web service displays the safety ratings next to the search results with red, yellow or green icons. They are currently supporting Google, Yahoo and Microsoft’s MSN search engines.
McAfee would be marketing this product and services to their vast base of customers and are also planning to promote it to businesses. George Heron, McAfee chief scientist, said in a statement on this acquisition: “This unique technology adds another dimension of strength and value to McAfee’s threat database and will offer a significant corporate benefit.â€
However, the two parties have not disclosed the financial details of this deal.
