Suzuki Motorcycles India to launch a 125 cc scooter

The Indian consumer no longer prefers to own a scooter. This is a fact. Bajaj has considerably increased their focus on the motorcycle market and the sales figure would prove that the demand for motorcycles far outclass the demand for the scooters in the Indian market.

However, it may come as a surprise to many as Suzuki Motorcycles India has announced their plans to launch a 125cc scooter by the end of first quarter of 2007-08. This would be their first such product for the Indian market as they would be taking on the products from the Honda.

A senior company representative said in a statement: “We are planning to launch a 125 cc scooter by the end of the first quarter of 2007-08”. It would be manufactured at the company’s plant in Gurgaon district. This plant has a capacity to manufacture one-lakh two-wheeler units a year.

Suzuki is already working on launching their first batch of Suzuki’s motorcycles, a 125 cc commuter bike named Heat. It is expected to be out in the market by next week. Another product named Zeus is planned in the next couple of months.

“This Winter tests have been very interesting for us and I can’t deny
that we are delighted with results However we still have room for more improvement. Everyone in the Team has worked very hard to get to the stage.
It’s encouraging that the set-up seems to work in such a International Event. We have a base and it’s a good one. The only thing now is to see how the bike responds in the next year which will be very different to these tests.”

Dinesh shetty TCMSC’s crew chief went out 2 to 3 times on the testing day, just to check the settings “
This is a lot more than we expected at this stage so we are very grateful for this and hopefully it
will help TCMSC to get even better results.”
