Sony and Comcast collaborates on an on-demand horror films

Comcast Corp. and Sony Corp. have said that they are collaborating on launching an on-demand cable, Internet, and wireless network for horror movies this coming Halloween. This new channel would debut on October 31 though the name of the channel has not been decided upon.

This channel would further expand Comcast’s programming lineup and would include more than a thousand horror titles in the Sony and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer libraries. Sony and a couple of investors purchased rights to legendary Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer movie studio a year ago.

Diane Robina, president of Comcast’s emerging networks said in a statement that there is no doubt that scary and horror movies are very popular amongst the people and the decision to start a new channel devoted to these movies was pretty easily taken. She added: “It’s about scaring the heck out of you.”

In the initial stages, as much as 40 hours of recent and classic movies would be made available per month. This would be further expanded to 70 hours of programming in the later stages.
