Swisscom might be fined for overcharging customers
Swiss authorities have reportedly threatened the Swisscom Telecom Company that they might be fined if found guilty of overcharging their customers for calls originating from other phone networks.
Switzerland’s Competition Commission said that the company misused their dominating position in the Swiss market as it charges the so-called termination fees at excessively high rates.
The authorities are specifically talking about the period between April 1, 2004, and May 31, 2005 when the telecom company charged fees for routing calls from other operators into their networks.
This fee was later reduced on June 1, 2005. Swisscom has claimed that these charges are unjustified. They said in a statement: “For years Swisscom Mobile has been charging the lowest mobile termination fees of any Swiss mobile carrier. On the contrary (Swisscom) has been making net payments to its competitors, Sunrise and Orange, on account of the lower price and higher outgoing call volumes.â€
