Google confirms licensing Orion technology from Ori Allon

Search engine giants Google has confirmed that they have licensed a search algorithm from an Australian university. This technology is named Orion and as per news sources delivers expanded results that make it more likely people will chose the right link to the most relevant Web page.

Ori Allon, 26, a PhD student at the University of New South Wales, developed this search engine technology and has now been hired by the search engine giants Google. Google has however declined to say what they plan to do with this new search algorithm.

The company said in a statement: “Google has purchased the assets of Orion and Ori Allon is now an employee. We’re thrilled to have him here.”

A press statement issued by the university said about Orion: Orion is “new way of exploring the Web that could revolutionize existing search engines”. Technically speaking it complements the search results provided by regular search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.
