Boeing aiming to match last year sales in China in 2006
US based aircraft manufacturing giants Boeing Co. has said that they expect to sell as many planes to Chinese airline companies this year as they sold last year. These targets were revealed by the company after China signed a deal to buy 80 Boeing 737 planes ahead of President Hu Jintao’s visit to the United States next week.
Boeing got orders of around 120 planes last year from the Chinese market and is expecting to retain a 60-65 percent share of the Chinese market despite competition provided by their European rivals Airbus.
Airbus overall had more orders than Boeing last year as they claimed 1,055 firm plane orders globally last year versus 1,002 for Boeing. Both these figures were record sales for the respective companies.
Rob Laird, vice president of China sales for Boeing said in a statement: “This year … we are well on our way toward achieving the same volumes we did last year. We hope to maintain our current market share in China, which is about 60-65 percent.”
